The Lily Project

In early July of 2022, we rescued a Great Pyrenees puppy name Lily. Lily was in very bad shape when we took her in. She couldn't see, might have been able to hear sometimes, and was constantly losing her balance, stumbling, and falling over. We were worried that Lily had been dropped, beaten, or had some other form of head trauma affecting her, so we brought her into our family and rushed her to the emergency vet, who recommended that we see a neurologist.

The truth was heartbreaking. Lily hadn't been beaten or dropped, but she had severe hydrocephaly that was putting pressure on her brain and causing her symptoms. The neurologist said that there was a surgery that could be done to alleviate that pressure, but results were not guaranteed. She had a good chance of pulling through and being a healthy and happy puppy, but only a chance. We decided to take that chance.

All the while, Lily was steamrolling through life. Some days were good and some weren't, but she wouldn't let it slow her down. She was running and playing and did not seem like a puppy in distress. She bonded to our family and we bonded to her.

At the end of August 2022, six weeks after we took her in, Lily passed away. The day before she died, she had her best day ever. She was up and playing, running through the yard with her head and tail up, chasing things that she would hear or smell; just living her best life. The next day, she took a sudden and rapid turn for the worse and passed away at the emergency vet clinic. She took large pieces of all our hearts with her.

Now we rescue the rough cases. The dogs that no one else will take and everyone else has given up on. Severe emaciation, bloat, abuse cases. These dogs have love in their hearts and they deserve even more love given to them. This is your legacy, Lily.

100% of profits from items belonging to The Lily Project will be donated to the rescue and care of special needs dogs. These items will be limited-run and individually hand-crafted. They will be made with the love that these dogs deserve. Run free, baby girl. We love you and we miss you.
